



Assosa University has successfully conducted its 4th In-house Research Conference under the theme “Bridging Research and Impact: Applied Research for Societal Transformation.”
The Conference was opened with remarks from Dr. Oumer Sherif, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, who emphasized the university’s dedication to advancing research that focuses on solving societal problems. He announced about 37 research papers prepared by Assosa University scholars that will be presented on the conference and selected for the upcoming National Research Conference.
Dr. Oumer also highlighted the increasing participation of the university’s researchers, noting that 104 staff members are currently engaging in 26 projects, with nine projects led by female researchers, a sign of progress in inclusivity and academic leadership.
This conference brought together researchers of the university, reflecting the institution’s growing commitment to applied research that directly addresses community challenges.
Dr. Kumilachew Alemu, Research Director, introduced the conference program, setting the stage for a day of scholarly exchange.
In the opening session, two significant research findings were presented: Dr. Befikadu Zewudie shared insights on the “Current Status of Cross-Border Rangelands, Available Feed Resources and Its Management Practices in Kurmuk District of BGRS, Western Ethiopia,” while Guyu Ferede presented the “Benishangul Gumuz State of the Environment Report.”
The presentations sparked lively discussions among participants before the conference continued in four parallel sessions, where researchers presented papers across related disciplines. The event underscored Assosa University’s role as an applied science institution committed to generating knowledge that transforms society.
