Assosa University offers Capacity Building Training on Thematic Research for Lecturers and Researchers

Assosa University has officially kicked off a three-day capacity building training aimed at enhancing the research capabilities of its academic staff. The training, held from August 25 to 27, is organized by the university’s Research and Technology Transfer wing and focuses on thematic research.
 
Dr. Oumer Sherif, Director of Research, Publication Ethics, and Dissemination, In his welcome speech announced that the university has issued a formal call for thematic research proposals. “We invite our academic community to engage with seven priority areas that reflect our institutional mission and the development needs of our region,” he stated.
 
The opening remarks  delivered by Dr. Abdelmuhsin Hassen, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, who highlighted the transformative potential of thematic research. “This approach enables us to focus on specific themes that resonate deeply within our communities and the global landscape,” he said.
 
The training is being led by Professor Masresha Fetena, former Vice President for Research at Addis Ababa University and a renowned expert in thematic research. Professor Masresha emphasized the collaborative nature of thematic research, describing it as “a group of researchers cooperatively addressing an overarching goal.”
 
Over the training, participants will explore key topics including:
• Alignment of thematic research with institutional research agendas and differentiation
• Structuring and formatting thematic research proposals
• Integration of graduate research projects into thematic frameworks
• Budget allocation strategies for thematic research initiatives
 
The program marks a significant step in strengthening research culture at Assosa University and aligning academic inquiry with pressing societal challenges.
