Assosa University, in collaboration with the Mineral Industry Development Institute (MIDI), has officially launched the implementation of the consultancy project agreement through a kickoff meeting held at Bamboo Paradise Hotel, Assosa City.
On the program, representatives from regional mineral development sectors across the country, Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State concerned officials and industries participated.
Opening the program, Assosa University president Dr. Kemal Abdurahim reaffirmed the University’s commitment to advancing Ethiopia’s mining sector. He also highlighted Assosa University’s close collaboration with Benishangul Gumuz Regional government and non-governmental organizations in areas such as education, agriculture and other societal issues.
Furthermore, he emphasized the University’s readiness to manage the consultancy work and expressed pride in being entrusted with this national mineral agenda.
Dr. Abdulmuhsin Hassen, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, welcomed participants and introduced Assosa Town and Assosa University. He also noted Ethiopia’s vast mineral resources that remain under-researched and stressed their potential to benefit communities.
Beside this, he outlined the University’s ongoing research and technology transfer initiatives, particularly in mining, and highlighted the kickoff consultancy agreement program which focuses on three main tasks in collaboration with Mineral Industry Development Institute namely as: developing a 10-year mining governance strategy, conducting research on dimensional stones, preparing capacity-building manuals and delivering training.
The kickoff meeting marks the beginning of a two-year consultancy collaboration designed to strengthen Ethiopia’s mineral sector through research, capacity building, and sustainable governance.
