A workshop focused on community based goat breeding program was held in Bambasi, bringing together various stakeholders, including farmers, experts from the Bureau of Agriculture, representatives from the Livelihoods and Resilience Program, and researchers. The event aimed to evaluate the progress of the goat breeding initiative, address challenges, and discuss future directions.
Facilitated by the Research and Publication Ethics and Extension Directorate of Assosa University, the workshop featured a presentation by the Project Lead Dr. Befikadu Zewudie, who provided a comprehensive report on the project’s progress. Key discussions revolved around the need for enhanced collaboration among participants to improve monitoring and evaluation processes.
The consensus among attendees highlighted the importance of scaling up successful practices identified during the workshop and distributing the project to other woredas. Participants expressed optimism regarding the positive outcomes observed so far, emphasizing that increased cooperation could further enhance the program’s impact on local goat production.
The community-based approach to goat breeding aims to empower farmers by improving productivity while maintaining genetic diversity. This participatory model has already shown promising results, with stakeholders advocating for its broader implementation across Woredas to maximize benefits of the community.
